Mandan cowboy Ty Breuer has been invited to compete in the inaugural Permit Holder of the Year Challenge, It is sanctioned by the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association and will take place in conjunction with the Benny Binion Bucking Horse and Bull Sale.
Breuer is one of five bareback riders holding permit cards in the PRCA who has been invited to compete at the event, held December 5-6 at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A total of 15 cowboys will compete: five in each of the following events: bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding.
The 19 year old cowboy currently attends Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyo. He competes on the college’s rodeo team and is ranked third in the nation as a bareback rider. Breuer qualified for and competed at the 2009 Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo and was the 2008 National High School Finals Rodeo reserve champion. Britany Fleck rounds barrel two at the Mandan Rodeo where she won $2,471 for a second place on her way to a Badlands Circuit championship.
The best of the best in North and South Dakota wrapped up a year’s worth of rodeo competition with the Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo in Minot on Oct. 11.
Nearly 100 cowboys and cowgirls, the top money winners after 21 pro rodeos in North and South Dakota, competed in four performances for $113,780 in prize money to determine two championships: the contestant with the most money won throughout the year and the contestant with the highest scores or fastest times throughout the four performances, defined as the aggregate.
Both the year end and the aggregate champ from each event qualify to represent the Badlands Circuit at the national level, at the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo (DNCFR) held in Pocatello, Idaho next April.
Two Mandan contestants, Britany Fleck and Cole Hermanson, are among the champions.
Fleck came into the finals in first place in the barrel racing and had the aggregate race sewn up until Saturday night. She hit a barrel, costing her five seconds and the aggregate win. She still snuck by the other eleven barrel racers and ended up as the year-end champion. Her horse Rootie is by Texas High Dasher. She trained the horse herself.
Hermanson dominated the bull riding all year long. His lead grew all weekend, as he won money in three of the four go-rounds and was the only bull rider to ride all four bulls. He earned the Badlands Circuit year-end and aggregate championships and will represent the circuit at the DNCFR for the second consecutive year.
